Ok, I’m a little embarrased about this sketch, but deal is a deal and here it is.

I tried and tried, but it still came out as a freak of nature. Guy looks like is paper thin

Don’t sweat it…the important thing is that you make good mistakes, i.e., mistakes that expose the problems so you can fix them.
Plus, you had the cajones to promise in advance to show all your work, so don’t take any crap from anybody

What’s your reference material for these? Photos? Models? You might really enjoy taking a figure drawing class. Most colleges offer them, and I know around here there are even a few galleries/studios that have live models a couple nights a month for people who want to come draw them.

Katherine, my references are different. For that particular one I used a photo on the back of Pink Floyd album. But I also use posemaniacs.com site and I have this wooden stick figure also.
I just went to art university, they have this 2 year course in design and it also includes drawing and related stuff. I’ll see what they can teach me there

That posemaniacs site is pretty cool, I’d never heard of that! They’re very stiff though, look like they are designed for gaming stuff. Somewhere I had a big stack of printouts from the figure drawing class I took in college (about proportions and features and stuff). Darned if I know where I put that, I ought to find those papers again…hmmm.
